Along the way, you’ll experience rural tourism and savor typical delicacies like Arzúa-Ulloa cheese and Galician empanada. The Camino is more than just a hike; it’s a journey into nature, a chance to meet incredible people, and an inner adventure to discover your own limits.

Starting in Sarria, just 114 kilometers from Santiago de Compostela, our 5-stage journey will lead to earning the “Compostela,” the certificate of completing the French Way pilgrimage.

Itinerary

Saturday 30/07

We will leave in the early hours of Saturday morning towards Galicia, making several stops along the way to rest and stretch our legs. Upon arrival in Sarria, we will check into the hostel and rest. Later, we will explore this charming town, where you can already feel the Camino atmosphere. We’ll stroll through the old town, discovering historical sites like several Romanesque churches and the tower of the Fortress of the Marquises. In the evening, we can have dinner with the group in the village center and get to know each other.

Sunday 31/07

We will have breakfast and begin the first stage of the route to Portomarín, covering approximately 22 km. The trail is easy, with a few medium-level slopes. We will walk through meadows and fields, passing through Vilei-Barbadelo, Molino de Marzán, Morgade, Ferreiros, A Pena, Mercadoiro, and Vilachá, a rural village of peasants where the ruins of monasteries are preserved. Finally, we’ll arrive at Portomarín, a perfect place to enjoy a coffee and rest at our hostel.

Monday 01/08

We will wake up early to begin the second stage of the route to Palas del Rei. This is one of the most well-prepared stages for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. The first half of the route runs along trails close to the road, while the second half features paved paths for easy and comfortable walking. Along the way, we will pass through several villages where we can rest and refresh ourselves. Upon arriving in Palas del Rei, we will head to our new hostel to relax and recharge.

Tuesday 02/08

After breakfast, we will start our third stage of the route toward Arzúa. This approximately 29.3 km stage will lead us through winding roads and breathtaking landscapes. Today’s route is one of the most demanding, especially towards the end. We will leave the province of Lugo and enter A Coruña, where Santiago de Compostela is located. This stage includes many slopes, but we will also walk through magical places full of charm, such as correidoras, narrow and deep rural paths with lush vegetation and shaded trees. Upon arrival at our hostel in Arzúa, we can rest and enjoy the area’s typical cuisine.

Wednesday 03/08

We have breakfast and set off again to complete our fourth stage—we’re almost at the end of the journey! Today’s walk will cover approximately 19 km toward Pedrouzo. This stage is one of the easiest, taking us along forest tracks and through small, charming villages. In Pedrouzo, we will spend the night. The town offers plenty of bars, supermarkets, and other amenities where you can shop and enjoy typical Galician dishes like octopus or scallops.

Thursday 04/08

We are now in the final stretch of the Camino! Today, we finally reach the finish line and arrive in Santiago de Compostela and its Obradoiro Square, not forgetting the obligatory visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. This stage is shorter, with a moderate level of difficulty, gentle slopes, and beautiful trails. The route will be approximately 19.7 km. Once we arrive in Santiago, we will leave our backpacks in the hostel so we can explore the city at our leisure.

Friday 05/08

After 5 days of walking and a well-deserved rest, we will start the day with a good breakfast and have free time to visit the beautiful city of Santiago de Compostela with its cobbled streets, museums, and churches. Around 14:00, we will be picked up by bus to return to Valencia. On our way back, we will stop several times and finally, we will arrive in Valencia after midnight. This is the end of a wonderful trip full of beautiful experiences.
The French Route

The French Route from Sarria is the most travelled section of the Way of St. James, and with more history and legends than all the routes leading to Santiago de Compostela. Along the way, you will enjoy unbeatable views in lush forests, charming villages, and a unique atmosphere. The route will take you through areas where you can taste typical specialties such as Arzúa-Ulloa cheese or visit ancient castles like the fortress of Pambre. Only 100 kilometers separate you from your destination in Santiago, where you will receive the Compostela, certifying the completion of your pilgrimage.

Detailed programme of Camino de Santiago
Day 1 SARRIA

When you arrive in Sarria, we recommend you visit the town and enjoy its monuments and streets, where you can already feel the atmosphere of the Camino. It has historical places worth discovering, such as the Monastery of La Magdalena or the castle. You can also stroll through the Chanto park or have a coffee in the town centre.
This day we will stay in our hostel “Alma Do Camino”, accommodation with breakfast included.

Day 2 DE SARRIA A PORTOMARÍN
Your route will begin with this stretch that runs along peaceful paths between centuries-old oak trees and historic granaries. The village of Portomarín is located on the banks of the river Miño and has monuments worth visiting such as the church of San Nicolás, known for having had to be moved to another location when its original site was flooded by the waters after the construction of the Belesar reservoir.
Distance: 22.2 km
Time en route: 5 hours
Overnight stay: Portomarín in Ferramenteiro Hostel with breakfast included.
Day 3 DE PORTOMARÍN A PALAS DE REI

After leaving Portomarín behind, the route continues upwards through the Serra de Ligonde. You can visit the villages of Gonzar or Castromaior, where the beautiful Romanesque church of Santa María is located. You will then continue descending towards Palas de Rei, site of the famous castle of Pambre, a well-preserved 14th century fortress that will transport you to a dream world.
Route: 24.8 km
Time en route: 6 hours
Overnight stay: Palas de Rei in Albergue San Marcos with breakfast included.

Day 4 DE PALAS DEL REI A ARZÚA
This stage will take you through winding roads and beautiful landscapes, with the river Iso as the protagonist. When you reach Arzúa, we recommend visiting the church of A Magdalena. However, the star of the show here is the Arzúa-Ulloa cheese, a local delicacy with a protected designation of origin that you must try.
Given the length of this stage, we offer the possibility of dividing it into two parts, spending a night in the town of Melide, where you can visit monuments such as the old pilgrims’ hospital (now a museum) or the chapels of San Antonio and San Roque. Don’t miss the chance to taste the famous local dish: octopus “á feira”.
Route: 28.5 km
Time en route: 7 hours
Overnight stay: Arzúa in Via Láctea hostel with breakfast included.
Day 5 DE ARZÚA A PEDROUZO

This stage of the route begins with a descent through magical forests and streams, forming an idyllic landscape. It’s an easy section where you can visit the chapel of Santa Irene or the church of Santa Eulalia de O Pedrouzo.
Route: 17.7 km
Time en route: 4 hours
Overnight stay: Pedrouzo in Albergue O Trisquel with breakfast included.

Day 6 DE PEDROUZO A SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

When you leave O Pedrouzo, you will head towards the end of your journey via Lavacolla. You will then pass Monte do Gozo, where you can already see the towers of the cathedral on the horizon. You will arrive in Santiago through the San Lázaro neighbourhood and go down towards the historic quarter, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, until you reach Obradoiro square to finally see Santiago Cathedral. If you wish and you have started your walk early, you can attend the pilgrim’s mass, celebrated at 12 noon.
Route: 19 km
Time en route: 5 hours
Overnight stay: Santiago de Compostela in Albergue Fin del Camino with breakfast included in a cafeteria in Santiago de Compostela.
