“There is no path; you make the path as you walk.”
The Camino de Santiago is a dream for hikers, offering magical landscapes, green forests, streams, charming small towns, and rural villages with a special atmosphere. Along the way, you’ll experience rural tourism and savor typical delicacies like Arzúa-Ulloa cheese and Galician empanada. The Camino is more than just a hike; it’s a journey into nature, a chance to meet incredible people, and an inner adventure to discover your own limits.
Starting in Sarria, just 114 kilometers from Santiago de Compostela, our 5-stage journey will lead to earning the “Compostela,” the certificate of completing the French Way pilgrimage.

We are now in the final stretch of the Camino! Today, we finally reach the finish line and arrive in Santiago de Compostela and its Obradoiro Square, not forgetting the obligatory visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. This stage is shorter, with a moderate level of difficulty, gentle slopes, and beautiful trails. The route will be approximately 19.7 km. Once we arrive in Santiago, we will leave our backpacks in the hostel so we can explore the city at our leisure.
The French Route from Sarria is the most travelled section of the Way of St. James, and with more history and legends than all the routes leading to Santiago de Compostela. Along the way, you will enjoy unbeatable views in lush forests, charming villages, and a unique atmosphere. The route will take you through areas where you can taste typical specialties such as Arzúa-Ulloa cheese or visit ancient castles like the fortress of Pambre. Only 100 kilometers separate you from your destination in Santiago, where you will receive the Compostela, certifying the completion of your pilgrimage.
When you arrive in Sarria, we recommend you visit the town and enjoy its monuments and streets, where you can already feel the atmosphere of the Camino. It has historical places worth discovering, such as the Monastery of La Magdalena or the castle. You can also stroll through the Chanto park or have a coffee in the town centre.
This day we will stay in our hostel “Alma Do Camino”, accommodation with breakfast included.
After leaving Portomarín behind, the route continues upwards through the Serra de Ligonde. You can visit the villages of Gonzar or Castromaior, where the beautiful Romanesque church of Santa María is located. You will then continue descending towards Palas de Rei, site of the famous castle of Pambre, a well-preserved 14th century fortress that will transport you to a dream world.
